St Johns, AZ. – May 5, 2009 – Since the H1N1 (Swine) flu outbreak began, the Apache County Public Health Services District’s Emergency Preparedness Division and key staff, have been taking the steps necessary to provide for residents, businesses, as well as county employees in the event of a wide-spread flu outbreak.
“The health and safety of our employees and the public we serve are the highest priorities for county officials,” says Elizabeth Kizer the Apache County Health Services Director.
To help ensure the continued operation of county functions and to keep the public informed, the following steps have been initiated:
1. The County’s Pandemic Flu Plan is being reviewed and implemented as needed.
2. Delivery of national stockpile antiviral medications to healthcare clinics and hospitals has been completed.
3. The County regularly communicates with Arizona Department of Health Services, the Arizona Department of Emergency Management, neighboring counties and other state, local and federal agencies to keep up-to-date on the latest H1N1 information.
4. The White Mountain Joint Information System (Call 593 and http://593info.org) has been regularly updated with the latest information and links on H1N1 and updates have been sent out to 593info Twitter subscribers.
5. The Health Services Division has a Public Health Nurse available to take calls during business hours by calling (928) 333-2415.
Although no confirmed cases of H1N1 have been documented in Apache County and the virus seems to be similar to the common flu, the county is still taking a proactive stance.
